The exposition starts with the first traditional economical activity on the island. Given that this activity is related to its natural environment, its resources, and its constraints including mainly aridity, the room exposes specific products, exploitation modes, and tools used since the dawn of history by the Djerbian farmer. In this room life-size photos are exposed as well as models of different scales and diverse objects. The irrigation system and wells are also exposed in addition to an underground olive oil mill since olive tree exploitation is one of the parallel activities to agriculture. The Djerbian have thus developed with time an agricultural practice and adapted tools to this environment. Starting with this room denotes the importance of this sector and the different themes attached to it in this island heritage.
